How to Decide on Your New Window
Treatments
When deciding on new window treatments for your home,
there are many things to consider.
Space
When we talk about space we mean the space of a single
room. The entire room should be considered when deciding
on a window covering. It's dimensions, colors, exposure
to natural lighting, and, of course, what you use
it for, all impact the type of covering that works
best in the space. Create a high contrast between
wall and window to make a room feel cozy. Keep a low
contrast to visually enlarge the room. Vertical window
fashions can add height and dignity to a room, while
horizontal ones often suggest relaxation and coziness.
Gentle fabric folds can offset the lines of a boxy
room. Use neutral colors when you want to bring focus
to other furnishings. Use eccentric colors to bring
focus to the window.
Style
Blinds and shades help achieve style without draperies
or other fabric window hangings. They are a perfect
solution in tight places where draperies would take
up too much room. Various colors, finishes and styles
allow you to match the blinds to the colors and style
of each room. Some styles include: contemporary, traditional,
formal, eclectic, casual, country, global, European
Privacy
Window coverings provide varying degrees of privacy
to suit specific needs. If it's total privacy that
you're looking for, you will need a treatment that
offers complete opaque covering. Roller shades, draperies,
cellular shades, faux or real wood blinds, and shutters
are all suitable for this solution.
Light
Control / UV Protection
Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can cause damage
to a home's interiors, floors, rugs and furniture.
If you have sunlight entering your window, most window
treatments but especially roller shades, real or faux
wood blinds and cellular shades help cut down or redirect
sunlight. Soft treatments such as semi-sheers and
fabric shades can diffuse sunlight. Draperies can
be lined to protect the fabric from fading.
Insulation
Blinds, shades, and shutters can help a room's temperature
stay comfortable.
Safety
If young children are around the home, safety becomes
an important factor when choosing window treatments.
Today's window coverings come with built-in cord-safety
features, and it is recommended that older window
coverings be replaced to meet the latest national
standards for window cord safety. Ask us about our
window treatments and child-safe designs.
Care &
Cleaning
Keep your window treatments looking great with frequent
cleaning. Use a vacuum cleaner soft brush attachment
or a soft cloth all window treatments. A damp cloth
can be used on metal blinds occasionally only if absolutely
necessary. Never use water on other treatments. If
draperies require additional cleaning, we recommend
dry cleaning only. Do not use liquids of any type
on fabric.
Inside
or outside mount
EVBlinds offers professional measuring and installation.
However, if you chose to do this task on your own
there are a few things to remember. Perfectly square
windows that are measured properly can have inside
mounts and window treatments that fit nicely inside
a window frame. However, keep in mind that older homes
settle and sometimes throw off windows so they're
no longer square. Even new homes' windows may not
be perfectly square. For these windows, an outside
mount may be more suitable.
