Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about motorized shades, smart home integration, and what to expect from our in-home consultations.
What happens during the free in-home consultation?
We bring the showroom to your door. Our specialist arrives with hundreds of fabric and material samples so you can see exactly how each option looks in your home’s natural lighting. We take precise measurements on the spot and hand you an instant, no-obligation quote before we leave — no guesswork and no follow-up pressure.
Do you cover sliding glass doors?
Yes — sliding doors are one of our most popular installations. Because we manufacture in Southwest Florida, we build treatments to fit sliders up to 20 or 30 feet wide.
- Motorized panel tracks — wide fabric panels glide on a track; open with remote or voice.
- Vertical cellular (honeycomb) shades — side-to-side operation with excellent insulation against Florida heat.
- Plantation shutters for sliders — bypass or bi-fold tracks for an architectural look.
- Motorized roller and zebra shades — mounted above the door so they disappear when fully open.
Can motorized shades deliver true blackout?
Yes. For total darkening, we build dual-shade systems (sheer over blackout on a single bracket), extra-wide blackout rollers that cover the whole slider in one piece, and vertical cellular blackout shades lined with a light-blocking foil layer.
Pro tip for 100% darkness: ask about side channels — small tracks installed on the edges of the frame that seal off the light halo around the shade’s edges.
What smart home systems do your motorized shades work with?
Our motors integrate with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit out of the box. For whole-home automation, we’re authorized dealers for both Lutron (Caséta, RA2 Select, HomeWorks) and Control4, and we pair with Somfy motors on many custom installs for their ultra-quiet Sonesse line.
No electrician needed. Everything connects wirelessly to your existing setup, so the shades show up in the app you already use — no extra remotes, no separate apps to switch between.
Why pick EV Blinds over a national brand?
Because every shade in your home moves in perfect sync. We engineer and calibrate the motors locally so a whole-home command lands as one coordinated motion — not a wave of blinds catching up to each other one room at a time. It’s a level of synchronization no other window company in the country delivers, and it only works because we build, program, and install everything in-house.
Can you schedule shades to open and close automatically?
Yes — sunrise/sunset timers sync your shades to your circadian rhythm, thermal sensors close shades when the sun gets intense, and Vacation Mode opens and closes them at random intervals while you’re away for added security.
How are the motors powered?
Three options depending on your home:
- Rechargeable battery motors — no wiring, charge once or twice a year via micro-USB.
- Solar-powered motors — a small discreet panel behind the shade keeps the battery topped up with Florida sunlight.
- Hardwired 12V or 24V systems — ideal for new construction; never needs charging.
